“Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: ‘Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.’” Luke 2:28-32
Unlike Herod: Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds, and Magi all experienced the love, joy, peace, and life Christ offers. This is also seen brightly through the old eyes of Simeon, who waited his whole life to catch a glimpse of the Messiah. That day in the temple he tasted the joy of heaven and the decades of waiting seemed a distant memory.
All who receive Christ are given His love, joy, peace, and abundant life; a life which does not end here, but will be continued in the glorious presence of Christ for all eternity. When our eyes have seen and our hearts have experienced the Lord’s salvation, even death can be a peaceful thought.
