“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.” Luke 2:1-3
God’s absolute control is on display for all to see throughout the Christmas narrative, but it is most brilliantly seen here. God worked though the pagan Roman government so Jesus would be born in Bethlehem, the city of David. This fulfilled His promise made through the Prophet Micah in Micah 5:2.
God is still completely sovereign today. He works through each joy and struggle in our lives — even working His perfect will through faithless governments and corrupt leaders.
