“There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.” John 1:6-9
People are not God; instead God became man. John the Baptist, who was a great prophet, was not the Messiah but gave testimony of him. Mary was not the Messiah but gave birth to him. Joseph was not the Messiah but served as a surrogate father for Him.
Jesus became like one of us so that we could be reconciled to Him. You cannot save yourself, you cannot remove your sin, you cannot reconcile yourself with God. Can you move a mountain or defeat evil? No, man is not God — man desperately needs God. And that is why He came.
